Western Heritable was founded in 1896 by Sir John Mactaggart, Baronet of King’s Park Glasgow, great grandfather of the present Chairman.
Until the early 1970s, the principal activities of the company comprised the development and subsequent letting and management of residential units in Glasgow, together with the development of substantial blocks of flats in Fulham, St John’s Wood and Mayfair in London. For many years the company’s largest single London asset was 55 Park Lane, developed in 1934 and sold in 1985.
Since the mid-1970s, the company has built an experienced, insightful team and created a substantial investment portfolio, both in the United Kingdom and the United States, including a significant number of commercial assets in London and New York.
Today, firmly footed on either side of the Atlantic, Western Heritable has acquired and developed over two million square feet of office, retail and hotel real estate and over 8,000 residential units. The company also has a significant live commercial development pipeline in some of the most exciting parts of London and New York.
The two operational teams of Western Heritable are led by Sir John Mactaggart in London and his brother, Philip Mactaggart, in New York.
