The Resident
The Resident is a differentiated brand of city centre hotels in London, Liverpool and Edinburgh. We focus on providing excellent rooms, in exceptional locations, with heartfelt hospitality whilst generating attractive returns and cash flows as real estate investors.
Located in carefully chosen urban neighbourhoods, our hotels provide our guests with a relaxed setting from which they can easily immerse themselves in the city. Our knowledgeable and attentive team members are always on hand to advise on the best bars, restaurants, culture and entertainment in the local area, tailored to our guests’ personal requirements.
Originally known as Base2Stay, the company was founded in 2006 by its majority owner, Mactaggart Family & Partners. The first hotel, a converted 65-bedroom Edwardian townhouse in Kensington, London, opened its doors the same year. Following the success of its original property, the brand opened its second hotel in 2010 in the centre of Liverpool, in a restored former cork warehouse dating back to the late 1800s.
In 2013, the opening of its second hotel in London coincided with a renaming of the brand as Nadler Hotels. The Soho hotel featured award-winning neo-Georgian style in the heart of London’s most vibrant district. In 2015, our Victoria hotel opened right next to Buckingham Palace and The Other Place Theatre, only one minute’s walk from the Nova development, which has transformed the area with excellent bars and restaurants, underpinned by world class offices and occupiers.
In early 2018, a shareholder-led change in leadership of the company marked an evolution of the design direction for the hotels, evidenced by the opening of our Covent Garden hotel on the 4th February 2019. The 57-room hotel is set within an eclectic Edwardian building overlooking the Strand at the southern gateway to Covent Garden.
BRAND REPOSITIONING
The new leadership team has built on the legacy of innovation with a name that evidenced the culture of the business and the brand. By evolving the offer and gradually introducing new service standards and systems, the hotels were ready to be formally repositioned as The Resident in 2020, on the first anniversary of the opening of our Covent Garden hotel.
The Resident Covent Garden is typically ranked number one on Tripadvisor in London and in 2024 was the number one hotel in the UK. The Resident Liverpool is consistently ranked the city’s number one hotel on Tripadvisor. The Resident Victoria, and the Resident Kensington are normally ranked in the top 10% of hotels worldwide by Tripadvisor, and The Resident Soho is typically in the top 25 hotels in London.
The Resident Edinburgh opened in 2024, and we will shortly start the construction of our sixth hotel, which is in Farringdon, London.
